slytherin head of house
Our dear Professor Vance had another successful term as our Divination Professor and Head of Slytherin house. And for being holed up in the dark, musty halls of the dungeon, she has managed to keep herself gracious and poised as ever. Perhaps it’s her inner eye that keeps her so sane. Professor Vance has always kept a watchful eye on her students, but she also always has their best interests at heart. Professor Vance was always available to help students and guide them through their own paths - literally and metaphorically. And Divinationally.
The Mother Snake showed her true compassionate colors in the fiasco that happened on the Dufftown trip. As soon as trouble arose (in the form of a wild tour bus and possessed students), Vance was there to make sure that none of her students and friends got hurt. Of course, it was no easy sight to watch her best friend causing some of the trouble against her will, but Vance made sure that everyone was safe and was one of the biggest helps in saving the day and returning her best friend back to normal.

slytherin prefects
I had the... privilege to sit down with Slytherin's new male prefect this term. Not only did the shock of Mr. Flynn Kowalski's badge come to the rest of the school's population, but to the Prefect himself! He had big shoes to fill and a lot of responsibility on his shoulders for probably the first time in his life. How did he do? Well, let's see what he had to say about his first term as a Prefect and you can decide for yourself.
So, this was your first term as a Prefect. Were you expecting that badge when it came in the mail or was it a surprise?
Was I expecting a badge? Hell no. It was a nice surprise though. Who doesn't want to have power over the other students? I knew a badge would make it easier for me to get away with things, and of course, I was right.
How did you family and friends react to the badge?
Depends on the person, but overall, everyone seemed to think I stole the badge. Either that, or they were surprised.
Was Vivian excited to work with you?
You should ask her. Who's better to answer that question than Mayfield? Or Vivian, as you called her.
How was your relationship as co-Prefects?
At first, we didn't get along, but our friendship grew, as any friendship does with a person that I tolerate. She's the best, and I want that written down. She's the best, and I couldn't of asked for a better co-Prefect.
Did you lose any points as a Prefect or ever get yourself into trouble?
I am trouble, kid. There's no telling how many times I got away with doing things that could of gotten me suspended. I am the Prefect that wasn't a role model, and I never will be, nor do I want to be.
Did you ever have to report anybody? Either way, did you find it exciting or nerve wracking to have to warn other students about the rules?
You clearly don't know me, do you? I found enjoyment out of reporting anybody that tried to cross me - as in, I reported them to myself because I dealt with the situation. It was a nice pastime. However, if someone was breaking the rules but leaving me alone, I let them do whatever they wanted to do. I wouldn't tell on them if they didn't tell on me when I broke the rules. Mutual agreement.
I always ask new prefects: how was the unlimited access to that giant Prefect’s bath tub?
Felicity, my girlfriend at the time, as everyone in this school knows, used it more than I did.
Did you ever... I don’t know, have any particular trouble being concerned for the well-being of your housemates?
I could care less for my housemates, except for a select few. By few, I mean few.
You happened to be one of the ones in Dufftown that was possessed... What went through your head when you started repeating those lines?
I don't remember anything from when I was possessed, except the feeling of... I don't even know what to call it. Uncomfortableness, I guess, after I came out of it? It was strange. Other than that, I don't remember, and I'm glad I don't remember.
Did that ruin any plans you had for the day, or were you just there for a good time?
.... you ask a lot of questions.... a lot of questions that are none of your business....
If you could change anything about your first term as Prefect, what would it be?
I would change having to sit here and answer your questions.

I got to sit down with the lovely Vivian Fairfield again and ask her about her second term as Slytherin Prefect. Read on to find out how she got along with Slytherin's very own bad boy, Flynn Kowalski, how she handled the events at Dufftown and what she has planned for the future!
This was your second term as a Prefect. How did it go? Easier or harder than your first year?
I would say a bit of both. Easier in a sense that at least I know what I’m supposed to do as a prefect, but also harder because Olly helped me a lot last term and I miss having him around.
How was your new partner, Mr. Kowalski? Were you excited to pair up with him, or a little wary at first?
Who wasn’t initially wary of it, anyway? At first, it waaaaas difficult because Flynn is….well, he’s Flynn, but we’re good friends! And, don’t tell anyone else, but he only sometimes takes orders from me.
Who wore the pants in the relationship? I mean.. Prefect-ship.
I’ll let you guys decide on that.
Any interesting things you came across during you patrols this time around?
Nothing here surprises me anymore, but I’m going to say this: some of you guys should find better places to snog.
So, you went to the Dufftown field trip... extravaganza. Before we get into what happened, what did you think about the idea of hanging out in a Muggle village?
I did! Dufftown wasn’t the first exclusively Muggle area I’ve visited, but I found the fact that I got to explore the place with my friends more appealing. I do love adventures and great company. It’s also a refreshing shift from Hogsmeade, so I hope there are more of that in the future… aside from certain incidents.
Now, as for what did happen... You were one of ones who was possessed during that scene. Can you explain how it felt when you started chanting those lines?
Unfortunately, yes. I didn’t feel like myself at all. It was like I lost control of my voluntary muscles and even when I tried so hard to stop chanting, the words just came right out of my mouth! It was awful.
What was going on in your head? How did you feel once you snapped out of it?
It was a battle between what my mouth wanted to say and what I know was right. Kind of like the only thing left of me were my rational thoughts, but I didn’t have a means to execute them. Right after that, I was both confused and scared. I hope nobody has to experience that too.
And how are you doing now, after it’s been a while since it happened? Any bad dreams or anything?
A few bad dreams especially during the first few weeks after the trip, yeah. The healer made sure I was okay after what happened, though. Mum and dad weren’t at all pleased, but they told me that far worse things have happened at Hogwarts during their time.
You’re getting close to your seventh year? Got any set plans for the future?
Don’t mention it! But right now, I’m sort of torn between wandlore and curse-breaking.
Last but not least, please share with the rest of us: if you could be any type of noodle, what kind of noodle would you be?
Hmm… I’ll go for the bow-tie pasta noodle. They’re really cute!
